Premier League Resumes This Weekend After Queen’s Death

The English top-flight football league has declared that seven games will proceed as planned this weekend, after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. The previous round of matches was delayed due to the Queen’s demise.

The Premier League will resume on the weekend of September 17-18, with two extra matches taking place on September 16.

Aston Villa will welcome Southampton on September 16, while Nottingham Forest will face Fulham on the same date.

On September 17, Wolves will take on Manchester City, Newcastle United will host Bournemouth, and Tottenham will play Leicester City at their stadium. However, the Brighton vs. Crystal Palace match will not go ahead, having been delayed due to labor action on the UK rail network. The strike action has now been called off.

Brentford will host Arsenal on September 18 at midday, while Everton will face West Ham later that day.

The Queens interment ceremony, scheduled for September 18th, has prompted the postponement of the Chelsea versus Liverpool and Manchester United versus Leeds United contests, originally planned for that date. These matches will be rescheduled for a later time.

The Premier League declared that after extensive discussions with clubs, law enforcement, local safety advisory groups, and other pertinent entities, they were compelled to postpone these three games.

The Premier League expressed gratitude to the UK Football Policing Unit and other law enforcement agencies across the nation for their assistance, as well as their broadcasting partners, for their support during this process. They will continue to collaborate with these entities leading up to the weekend.

Premier League venues will pay homage to the Queen during the national period of mourning.

New dates for the postponed matches will be revealed in due time.

The English Football League has also declared that its fixture schedule will resume starting today (September 13th), while football matches in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland will also recommence.

Horse racing in the UK has also resumed as usual, although the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has stated that no races will be held on the day of the funeral.
