Kentucky Governor Candidate Proposes Expanded Gambling to Fund Public Services

Kentuckys Democratic candidate for governor, Andy Beshear, has unveiled his strategy to significantly broaden gambling within the state. Should he be elected, he aims to make commercial casinos, sports wagering, and online gaming legal.

Beshear’s proposal suggests utilizing the tax income generated from expanded gambling to fortify the state’s retirement system for public workers. This would provide advantages to educators, law enforcement officers, firefighters, and social workers.

He also indicated that extra tax revenue could be allocated to finance local services such as healthcare facilities without increasing local taxes.

At present, Kentucky only permits pari-mutuel betting on horse and dog races, in addition to charitable games like the state lottery.
