Holmerson Entertainment Granted Online Gambling Permit in the Netherlands

Holmerson Entertainment has been given permission to run online betting in the Netherlands.

The Dutch gambling authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has given Holmerson Entertainment BV a new online gambling permit.

The permit allows Holmerson Entertainment to provide online games of chance in the regulated online gambling market in the Netherlands.

It is not yet known which brand Holmerson Entertainment will use to operate online betting in the Netherlands. When confirmed, details will be published in the Dutch “Kansspelwijzer” gambling guide.

The permit is the 27th issued in the country’s regulated online gambling market, which began in October 2021.

Other recent approvals include LeoVegas Group, which revealed plans to restart online gambling in the Netherlands in July. Maltese company SCGO Limited also received an online gambling permit in the country earlier this year.

The Dutch regulator is taking a tough stance on cashback bonuses.

Last month, the KSA launched a market-wide inquiry into prohibited cashback bonuses. This followed reports that an operator was promoting such offers to players.

The KSA ordered Dutch online gambling licensees to stop offering cashback bonuses in November 2022. The regulator stated that these bonuses are subject to advertising laws and therefore may not encourage “excessive” betting.

Cashback offers allow customers to recover some of their losses when their bets or wagers are unsuccessful.

Commencing on the first of July, all gambling advertisements that lack a targeted audience are prohibited nationwide. This encompasses television and radio commercials, as well as advertisements displayed in public areas. Online and on-demand television advertising remains permissible, albeit subject to stringent regulations.
