Swedish Court Reduces Kindred Group Fine in Bonus Funds Dispute

A court in Sweden has lowered the financial penalty given to a branch of the gaming firm Kindred Group. The subsidiary, Spooniker, was originally ordered to pay approximately $9.5 million in 2020 after the Swedish Gaming Authority (SGA) concluded that specific incentives and marketing campaigns should have been categorized as bonus funds under Swedish regulations.

Kindred contested this assessment and challenged the judgment. The corporation asserted that the guidelines were ambiguous and subject to interpretation. Due to the appeals procedure, the penalty was initially decreased to $4.7 million and has now been further diminished to $2.8 million. Nevertheless, Kindred still contends that the financial penalty should be entirely overturned.

In separate gaming news, authorities apprehended eight individuals in Macau for allegedly operating a scheme that swindled casinos out of roughly $570,000.

At the beginning of this month, the Chinese government launched a pair of fresh programs designed to tackle fraudulent goods and unethical commercial conduct. This forms part of a broader strategy to bolster trust within the commercial sphere.
