Bristol Rovers FC Backs Gambling Awareness Drive

This project, managed by the Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust, strives to heighten understanding of the risks associated with compulsive gambling. The League One team is collaborating with the NHS to promote ‘Off the Pitch’, an initiative seeking to increase knowledge of gambling assistance programs available throughout the southwest of England.

The campaign, inaugurated last year, aims to remove the stigma surrounding gambling dependence and urge those struggling to pursue assistance. Originally launched in Bristol, the program has broadened its reach to provide support to anyone in the southwest aged 18 and above. Assistance encompasses cognitive behavioral therapy, group sessions, and telephone and online gatherings.

Chris Gilmore, Clinical Lead for the South West Gambling Service, emphasized the significant impact problematic gambling can have on individuals and their families, impacting relationships and well-being. He pointed out the worrying increase in problem gambling and stressed the program’s dedication to lessening the detrimental consequences of this addiction.

This project is one of several instances of football clubs embracing social responsibility. In January, Middlesbrough FC’s financial backer, Kindred Group, donated its jersey sponsorship space to the MFC Foundation for a game, replacing its usual Unibet branding.

Lately, the Sky Bet EFL Community Fund…

In recent days, England and Wales revealed a fresh funding scheme to support neighborhood initiatives. A sum of £750,000 will be distributed, representing a significant allocation of resources intended to bolster local areas.
