FanDuel Slapped with $100,000 Fine in Ontario for Aggressive Gambling Promotion Tactics

FanDuel, a well-known internet wagering platform, received a $100,000 penalty in Ontario, Canada. The company was cited for violating regulations regarding the promotion of gambling activities. It seems they went a tad too far in pushing bonuses and promotions, a significant offense in Ontario. They even broadcast these deals on television and social networks, which is, like, doubly prohibited! Regulators emphasized that such forceful marketing tactics can be detrimental and affirmed their vigilance in monitoring all gaming entities to ensure compliance.

As with any licensed provider, DraftKings can contest rulings by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) at an independent judicial body, the Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT).

Ontario’s recently regulated iGaming sector has experienced operator financial penalties before. Both BetMGM Canada and PointsBet were also subject to sanctions, incurring fines of $48,000 and $30,000 CAD correspondingly in early May.

Notably, the AGCO referenced violations of Standard 2.05 when levying the fines against BetMGM Canada and PointsBet, the same regulation DraftKings is alleged to have broken.
