Combating Match Manipulation: A Collaborative Effort at the 2023 Symposium on the Reliability of Sports Wagering

The Canadian Centre for Sporting Principles (CCSP) and McLaren Worldwide Athletics Solutions (MWAS) are thrilled to share that the upcoming 2023 Conference on Athletic Manipulation and Wagering will be backed by a collaboration with the Global Wagering Uprightness Alliance (GWUA) and its associates bet365, Betway, and FanDuel. These financial backers are dedicated to safeguarding the ethical standards of international athletics and regulated betting.

bet365, Betway, and FanDuel are affiliates of GWUA, a group that guarantees accountable wagering habits through a rigorous vetting procedure and code of ethics. GWUA and its collaborators play a crucial part in overseeing, examining, and penalizing those engaged in match-fixing. GWUA is a non-profit group and the planet’s premier operator-managed integrity watchdog, encompassing over 120 sports wagering companies and covering over $137 billion in wagering activity yearly; the alliance represents a sizable portion of licensed wagering providers in Ontario.

The 2023 Symposium on the Reliability of Sports Wagering assembled interested parties from the international sports and gaming sectors. Taking place in Toronto from May 30th to 31st, the objective was to forge a cohesive strategy for protecting sports probity and formulating comprehensive national tactics against the manipulation of matches.

Prominent sector leaders were present, including Khalid Ali, Chief Executive Officer of the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA). Ali underscored IBIA’s dedication to combating match manipulation and commended the Canadian sports community and responsible wagering providers for their commitment to this matter. Significant providers like bet365, Betway, and FanDuel (all IBIA constituents) furnished vital backing for the symposium, showcasing the industry’s proactive position against dishonesty.

Jeremy Luke, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), accentuated the significance of cooperation. He conveyed appreciation for the sponsors’ devotion to fair competition and emphasized the necessity for all stakeholders to collaborate in devising inventive solutions to eradicate match-fixing and uphold the sanctity of sports.
